The Girl In The Yellow Polo - Revealed!
Ever since it came out, I’ve been wondering what’s the story behind the cover photo for Vampire Weekend’s Contra. It turns out the girl is some model named Ann Kirsten Kennis and the picture was shot back in 1983.
She’s suing the band, their label and the photographer now.
It’s a cool photo.

Out: "Christina Aguilera Reclaims The Fame" →
Here’s a great profile on Christina Aguilera. It was penned by Joshua David Stein, a brilliant writer who used to edit Gawker.
She discusses her new album, Bionic, love for graffiti art AND kinda talks a little shit about Lady Gaga.
Un-aired clip from the Betty White SNL episode.

ANOTHER AUSTRALIAN BAND TO LOVE
One of the best weekends of my life was South By Southwest in March 2008.
Now that we’ve gotten that out there, I will not be attending SXSW this year - but for those who are, check out the Cassette Kids. They built up a following in Sydney on the strength of their live shows and they are playing a bunch of gigs this year in Austin.
Dubai Assassination →
This is getting no coverage in the U.S. but I think it’s one of the most intriguing news stories out there - the assassination of a Hamas leader by a 27-member hit squad.
Espionage, murder, identity theft - it’s got all the elements.
I can’t wait for the movie.

The ultra-fierce and fabulous Justin Tranter of Semi Precious Weapons talks about the band, their new album, crazy fans and more….
SPW’s got some major players championing them from Perez Hilton to their BFF Lady Gaga. They are opening for Gaga on her ‘Monster Ball’ tour and are long-time friends from her pre-fame days.
Check it!
Be Set Free
Talked to Sean Scolnick (aka Langhorne Slim) for this week’s NN. He was great to interview and is really just a beautiful singer, songwriter and musician. “Say Yes” is a terrific song.

“The attitude towards low-end and low-frequency in the mixes has had an impact on the way I envision [my music],” Salters says. “Working with hip-hop acts here in the past few years has showed me how the low-end has to be physical, it has to hit you in the stomach and move you, whereas in France, the low-end isn’t an important part of what you consider music to be.”

SOOO last night, Audrey, Heidi and Amy and I returned to the scene of many of our freshman year-crimes: the Green Hills movie theatre (Funscape!). The wait was over….the day had arrived….
It was time for ‘New Moon.’
After debating whether or not to use Heidi’s wheelchair to bypass any lines, we decided just to go at 10 and hope for the best. It was fine. We...

Steph B - Are You Reading This?!
So the identity of the real-life Belle de Jour (the hooker/blogger/author and inspiration for one of my favorite shows, ‘Secret Diary of A Call Girl’) was revealed this weekend. No one knew who she really was - not even her literary agent.
Well it turns out - she’s a CANCER SCIENTIST.

What do you hope to get out of all of this attention, travel, and talking to the press? My main goal is to start acting and move forward in that direction.”
(Then he goes on to talk about his aspiring country music career.)

I wasted a a whole hour this morning watching some of the Halloween episodes of ‘The Today Show’ and ‘The View’ and texting back and forth with Grace Clayton about them.
I laughed so hard when the ewok tried to drink the martini and Ann Curry had to take it away from him. Grace and I both agreed that that ‘Better Homes & Garden’ editor was probably PISSED...
